School of Humanities
 School of Humanities comment:
The ADD/DROP POLICY for ALL courses in the SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES is that ADDS and DROPS must be effected PRIOR to the END of the SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (October 8, 2004).
  German
 German department comments:
NOTE: NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO ADD, DROP, OR CHANGE GRADE OPTION AFTER THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (October 8, 2004).
NOTE: German placement testing is recommended, but not required, for students who have successfully completed German language classes in high school. To obtain information about dates and content of the German placement exam, please contact the UCI Testing Office at (949) 824-6207. Students with college-level course work should present their transcript to an academic counselor in the Humanities Undergraduate Study Office, 143 Humanities Instructional Building, or call (949) 824-5132 for assistance in determining which UCI course to take.
NOTE: Apart from the optional placement test, students enroll in German language courses according to the number of years of previous study. In general, one year of high school German is considered equal to one quarter of a UCI German language course. However, during the first week of German 2A a diagnostic test is administered in class, in order to inform students of their readiness to succeed in 2A. While all students with at least three years of high school German or the equivalent may opt to remain in German 2A, those who score below 70% on the diagnostic test will be advised to enroll in 1C or below.
Note: A student who received a score of "3" on the Advanced Placement (AP) German exam is eligible to enroll directly in German 2A. A student who received a score of "4 or 5" on the Advanced Placement German exam is eligible to enroll directly in German 100A; however, full credit will be awarded for German 2C if the student wants to take German 2C first for review. Documentation of the German AP exam must be provided to the German Department Language Program Director.
