School of Humanities
 School of Humanities comments:
The ADD/DROP POLICY for ALL courses in the SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES is that ADDS and DROPS must be effected PRIOR to the END of the SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (April 15, 2005.)
Note: A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.
NOTE: Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.
NOTE: For all non-EAD (electronic add/drop) courses in the School of Humanities, the waitlist for each course is active through the end of the WebReg adjustment period only (March 30, 2005 at 5:00 p.m.). Once instruction begins (April 4, 2005), all course adds and drops are subject to the policy of each instructor.
NOTE: Adds, drops and grade/unit changes (all non-EAD courses only) processed via the add/drop/change card require the signature of the instructor. The only exception to this policy is for Humanities Core (course codes 29000-29138). All enrollment changes for Humanities Core are signed in their departmental office, HIB 185.
  English and Comparative Literature
English and Comparative Literature department comments:
Note: Satisfaction of the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (Subject A) is PREREQUISITE to all CompLit, Criticism, English, Literary Journalism and Writing courses except CompLit 8, Writing 39A and Writing 39A/Plus.
Note: Students registered in any course offered by the Department of English and Comparative Literature are expected to attend both the FIRST and SECOND class meetings of the course or they may be required to drop the course with a drop card.

  Writing   39A     FUNDAMENTLS OF COMP

Writing 39A and Writing 39A/Plus, Fundamentals of Composition and Fundamentals of Composition Plus Workshop
NOTE: Students must have taken the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam (Subject A) in order to be eligible to enroll in either Writing 39A or Writing 39A/Plus.
NOTE: Students who have not met the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (Subject A) prior to their first quarter enrollment, must satisfy the requirement during their first three (3) quarters at UCI. Students may satisfy the requirement by enrolling in Writing 37 (if recommended for this course)), Writing 39A, Writing 39A/Plus (if recommended for this course), or a Humanities Core section designated S/A. In any of these courses, students must earn a letter grade of C (2.0) or better.
NOTE: Students who have not completed their Academic English/ESL requirement may not take Writing 37, Writing 39A, or Writing 39 A/Plus. If there are any questions about Academic English/ESL status, inquire at the Academic English/ESL Office, HIB 201.
NOTE: Writing 39A, Fundamentals of Composition sections (course codes 21131-21132), are open only to students who received a placement result of "WR 39A" via the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam (Subject A), OR who earned less than a "C" (2.0) grade in a prior enrollment in Writing 39A. Students who placed into Writing 39A via the exam are eligible to enroll in course codes 21131-21132 ONLY.
NOTE: Writing 39A/Plus, Fundamentals of Composition with workshop section (course codes 21161-21166 plus 21181-21186), are open only to students who received a placement result of "WR 39A/Plus" via the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam (Subject A) or who have fully met their Academic English/ESL requirement (as determined by the Academic English faculty). Students who placed into "WR 39A/Plus" via the exam are eligible to enroll in course codes 21161-21166 and 21181-21186 ONLY.
NOTE: Enrollment in Writing 39A/Plus with workshop involves enrolling in one seminar (course codes 21161-21266), AND one workshop (or "lab" as designated below -- course codes 21181-21186). Students eligible to enroll in Writing 39A/Plus must FIRST enroll in two courses (eight units) when their spring quarter enrollment window opens. Once enrolled in a minimum of eight units for spring, contact the Composition Office (HIB 420, 949-824-6717) for authorization codes in order to enroll in one Writing 39A/Plus seminar as well as one Writing 39A/Plus workshop (i.e. lab). Students will NOT be issued an authorization code for enrollment until they are enrolled in at least eight units for the spring quarter.
