School of Humanities
 School of Humanities comments:
THE ADD/DROP POLICY FOR ALL COURSES IN THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES IS THAT ADDS AND DROPS MUST BE EFFECTED PRIOR TO THE END OF THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (April 13, 2007). Any exceptions to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition and require approval of the Undergraduate Dean of the School of Humanities. To attempt to add or drop a course after April 13, 2007, complete the Late Add/Drop/Change petition (available in HIB143 and at:http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad), seek approval from your instructor, and then the undergraduate dean.
A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.
Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.
For all non-EAD (electronic add/drop) courses in the School of Humanities, the waitlist for each course is DEACTIVATED at the end of the WebReg adjustment period (March 28, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.). If you have not been admitted to the class via the wait list by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, you are no longer on any wait list for any of the non-EAD courses in Humanities. Once instruction begins (April 2, 2007), all adds and drops for non-EAD courses are subject to the policy of each instructor.
Adds, drops and grade/unit changes (all non-EAD courses only) processed within the first two weeks of each quarter via the add/drop/change card require the signature of the instructor. There are two exceptions to this policy:
 1) HUMANITIES CORE COURSE (course codes 29000-29110):
All signatures for Humanities Core courses are obtained in their departmental office, HIB 185. Signatures will NOT be provided by instructors in the individual course sections.
 2) COMPOSITION/WRITING COURSES (Writing 39A, 39AP with Lab, 39B, 39C, 139W):
Although enrollment changes for all composition courses are provided in the individual course sections, the card will NOT have an actual instructor's signature on it. Students who are allowed to add or drop any composition course mentioned above will be given a card that is pre-stamped with "COMPOSITION OFC" on it. Students who obtain a stamped card can submit the card directly to the Registrar's Office - no further signature is required.
  German
 German department comments:
German placement testing is recommended, but not required, for students who have successfully completed German language classes in high school. To obtain information about test dates and content of the German placement exam, please contact the UCI Testing Office at (949)824-6207. Students with college-level course work in German should present their transcript to an academic counselor in the Humanities Counseling Office, HIB 143 (949-824-5132) for assistance in determining which UCI course to take.
Apart from the optional placement test, students enroll in German language courses at UCI according to the number of years of previous high school study. In general, one year of high school German is considered equal to one quarter at UCI. For example, students with two years of high school German enroll in German 1C while students with three years of high school German enroll in 2A.
A student who received a score of "3" on the Advanced Placement (AP) German exam is eligible to enroll directly into German 2A. A student who received a score of "4" or "5" on the Advanced Placement German exam is eligible to enroll directly into German 100A, 100B or 100C, however full credit will be awarded for German 2C if the student wants to take German 2C for review first. Documentation of the German AP exam must be provided to the German Department Language Program Director.

  German   97     FUNDMTLS OF READING

No credit can be earned for German 97 by anyone with prior college-level German. German 97 is a German reading course designed primarily for graduate students, although undergraduates with no prior background in German may enroll. German 97 does not serve as a prerequisite to any other German language course. It is not applicable towards the language breadth requirement (VI) or the School of Humanities language requirement.
