School of Humanities
 School of Humanities comments:
THE ADD/DROP POLICY FOR ALL COURSES IN THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES IS THAT ADDS AND DROPS MUST BE EFFECTED PRIOR TO THE END OF THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (October 12, 2007).
Any exception to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition and require approval of the Undergraduate Dean of the School of Humanities. To attempt to add or drop a course after October 12, 2007, complete the Lat Add/Drop/Change petition (available in HIB 143) and at http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad)
A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.
Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.
For all non-EAD (electronic add/drop) courses in the School of Humanities, the waitlist for each course is DEACTIVATED at the end of the WebREG adjustment period (September 25, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.). If you have not been admitted to the class via the wait list by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, you are no longer on any wait list for any of the non-EAD courses in Humanities. Once instruction begins (September 27, 2007), all adds and drops are subject to the policy of each instructor.
Adds, drops and grade/unit changes (all non-EAD courses only) processed within the first two weeks of each quarter via the add/drop/change card require the signature of the instructor. There are two exceptions to this policy:
 1) HUMANITIES CORE COURSE (course codes 29000-29140):
All signatures for Humanities Core courses are obtained in their departmental office, HIB 185. Signatures will NOT be provided by instructors in the individual course sections.
 2) COMPOSITION/WRITING COURSES (Writing 37, 39A, 39AP with Lab, 39B, 39C, 139W):
Although enrollment changes for all composition courses are provided in the individual course sections, the card will NOT have an actual instructor's signature on it. Students who are allowed to add or drop any composition course mentioned above will be given a card that is pre-stamped with "COMPOSITION OFC" on it. Students who obtain a stamped card can submit the card directly to the Registrar's Office - no further signature is required.
Effective June 17 through August 31, most upper-division courses in the School of Humanities will be restricted to upper-division School of Humanities majors only. All NOR (new only reserve) restrictions, as well as the "M" (school major only) restrictions, will be removed at approximately 5:00 p.m. on August 31, 2007. Any qualified student is welcome to add into Humanities courses at that time (subject to space availability).
  French
 French course numbers 1 - 2:

Students who have successfully completed French language classes in high school enroll in French language courses at UCI according to their years of previous study. In general, one year of high school French will be considered equal to one quarter of a UCI language course. Thus, for example, students with two years of high school French will enroll in 1C, while students who have completed three years in high school will enroll in 2A. Students wanting a more precise assessment of their abilities may take a French placement test that is available through the UCI Testing Office. THE EXAM IS NOT OBLIGATORY. Students may then enroll in French at UCI either based on the high school formula indicated above or based on the results of the placement exam. For further information about the French placement test, contact the Testing Office at www.testingoffice.uci.edu or at (949) 824-6207.
Exceptions to the above-stated enrollment formula must have the approval of the French Department Language Program Director.
Students with credit for previous college-level courses in French, should check with the Humanities Counseling Office in HIB 143 (949-824-5132) to determine the appropriate course to enroll in at UCI.
A student with a score of "3" on either French Advanced Placement exam may enroll directly into French 2A. A student with a score of "4" or "5" on either French Advanced Placement exam is eligible to enroll directly into French 100A; however, full credit will be awarded for French 2C if the student wants to take French 2C first for review.
