School of Humanities
 School of Humanities comments:
THE ADD/DROP POLICY FOR ALL COURSES IN THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES IS THAT ADDS AND DROPS MUST BE EFFECTED PRIOR TO THE END OF THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (October 12, 2007).
Any exception to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition and require approval of the Undergraduate Dean of the School of Humanities. To attempt to add or drop a course after October 12, 2007, complete the Lat Add/Drop/Change petition (available in HIB 143) and at http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad)
A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.
Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.
For all non-EAD (electronic add/drop) courses in the School of Humanities, the waitlist for each course is DEACTIVATED at the end of the WebREG adjustment period (September 25, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.). If you have not been admitted to the class via the wait list by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, you are no longer on any wait list for any of the non-EAD courses in Humanities. Once instruction begins (September 27, 2007), all adds and drops are subject to the policy of each instructor.
Adds, drops and grade/unit changes (all non-EAD courses only) processed within the first two weeks of each quarter via the add/drop/change card require the signature of the instructor. There are two exceptions to this policy:
 1) HUMANITIES CORE COURSE (course codes 29000-29140):
All signatures for Humanities Core courses are obtained in their departmental office, HIB 185. Signatures will NOT be provided by instructors in the individual course sections.
 2) COMPOSITION/WRITING COURSES (Writing 37, 39A, 39AP with Lab, 39B, 39C, 139W):
Although enrollment changes for all composition courses are provided in the individual course sections, the card will NOT have an actual instructor's signature on it. Students who are allowed to add or drop any composition course mentioned above will be given a card that is pre-stamped with "COMPOSITION OFC" on it. Students who obtain a stamped card can submit the card directly to the Registrar's Office - no further signature is required.
Effective June 17 through August 31, most upper-division courses in the School of Humanities will be restricted to upper-division School of Humanities majors only. All NOR (new only reserve) restrictions, as well as the "M" (school major only) restrictions, will be removed at approximately 5:00 p.m. on August 31, 2007. Any qualified student is welcome to add into Humanities courses at that time (subject to space availability).
  Humanities
 Course Codes 29000 - 29054:

Students registered in any section of the Humanities Core course are expected to attend both the FIRST and SECOND class meetings of the course or they may be required to drop the course with a drop card.
Adds, drops and change of grading options for all Humanities Core sections must be effected by the end of the second week of classes (October 12, 2007).
Due to large enrollment, once the student is officially enrolled in a discussion section there will be NO CHANGES made unless the student can EXCHANGE discussion sections with another student.
To enroll in Humanities Core 1A, students must have satisfied the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement and official record of any exam taken must be on file with the Admissions Office. The UC Entry Level Writing Requirement may be satisfied by one of the following methods: 1) receiving a score of 680 or above on the Writing section of the SAT Reasoning Test, 2) receiving a score of 3, 4, or 5 on either of the Advanced Placement English exams, 3) receiving a score of 5, 6, or 7 on the International Baccalaureate Higher Level Examination in English (Language A only), 4) receiving a score of 6 or 7 on the International Baccalaureate Standard Level Examination in English (Language A only), 5) placing into Writing 39B OR Humanities 1A via the UC Analytical Writing Exam taken May 12, 2007 or, 5) completion of the first course of Freshman Composition with a grade of "C" of above at UCI or at another College. Students who have not satisfied the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement will not be allowed to enroll in Humanities Core 1A .
Students who receive a placement result of Academic English/ESL or Wr 39AP with Lab on the UC Analytical Writing Placement exam are NOT eligible to enroll in Humanities 1A.

 Course Codes 29060 - 29082:

To enroll in Humanities Core 1AS/A, students MUST have taken the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam. No student will be allowed to enroll in S/A sections of Humanities Core without having taken the exam and having placed into Writing 39A, Writing 37, or Humanities 1AS/A.
Students who receive a placement result of Academic English/ESL or Wr 39AP with Lab on the UC Analytical Writing Placement exam are NOT eligible to enroll in Humanities 1AS/A.
Students who have not met the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement prior to entrance MUST SATISFY THE REQUIREMENT DURING THEIR FIRST YEAR OF RESIDENCE AT UCI. There are two ways a student may satisfy the requirement. First, students enrolled in Humanities Core MUST ENROLL in a section designated S/A, as listed below, and receive a grade of "C" (2.0) or better. The second option, open to students NOT enrolled in Humanities Core, is to take Writing 37 or Writing 39A or Writing 39AP with Lab and receive a grade of "C" (2.0) or better.
Humanities Core 1A S/A writing sections provide six (6) units of "workload credit", of which four (4) units count toward "baccalaureate credit." Workload credit is used to determine a student's full-time status for Financial Aid, Housing, etc. "Baccalaureate credit" applies towards units for graduation and is used to compute GPA.

Students interested in participating in H.O.T. (Humanities Out There) need to first register for the lecture when your enrollment window opens. You must choose either 0 or 2 units. For 2 units of credit you will write a short case study of one or two K-12 students in your group. For both 0 or 2 units, you must attend all tutor training sessions on campus and all workshops in Santa Ana (no more than 10 hours per quarter, per workshop). H.O.T. may be taken for credit for a total of eight units.

 Course Codes 29649 - 29656:

Before you enroll in one of the H.O.T. field study sections, you must have confirmation from the Workshop Leader that you can join his/her section. Each of the following tracks (topics) represents 4 workshops at different days and times, so you must go to the H.O.T. website to check the schedules. The workshop schedules should be available by September 24, 2007. To view the schedules and contact the Workshop Leaders, go to http://www.humanities.uci.edu/hot/.
