School of Humanities
 School of Humanities comments:
THE ADD/DROP POLICY FOR ALL COURSES IN THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES IS THAT ADDS AND DROPS MUST BE EFFECTED PRIOR TO THE END OF THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (October 12, 2007).
Any exception to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition and require approval of the Undergraduate Dean of the School of Humanities. To attempt to add or drop a course after October 12, 2007, complete the Lat Add/Drop/Change petition (available in HIB 143) and at http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad)
A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.
Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.
For all non-EAD (electronic add/drop) courses in the School of Humanities, the waitlist for each course is DEACTIVATED at the end of the WebREG adjustment period (September 25, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.). If you have not been admitted to the class via the wait list by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, you are no longer on any wait list for any of the non-EAD courses in Humanities. Once instruction begins (September 27, 2007), all adds and drops are subject to the policy of each instructor.
Adds, drops and grade/unit changes (all non-EAD courses only) processed within the first two weeks of each quarter via the add/drop/change card require the signature of the instructor. There are two exceptions to this policy:
 1) HUMANITIES CORE COURSE (course codes 29000-29140):
All signatures for Humanities Core courses are obtained in their departmental office, HIB 185. Signatures will NOT be provided by instructors in the individual course sections.
 2) COMPOSITION/WRITING COURSES (Writing 37, 39A, 39AP with Lab, 39B, 39C, 139W):
Although enrollment changes for all composition courses are provided in the individual course sections, the card will NOT have an actual instructor's signature on it. Students who are allowed to add or drop any composition course mentioned above will be given a card that is pre-stamped with "COMPOSITION OFC" on it. Students who obtain a stamped card can submit the card directly to the Registrar's Office - no further signature is required.
Effective June 17 through August 31, most upper-division courses in the School of Humanities will be restricted to upper-division School of Humanities majors only. All NOR (new only reserve) restrictions, as well as the "M" (school major only) restrictions, will be removed at approximately 5:00 p.m. on August 31, 2007. Any qualified student is welcome to add into Humanities courses at that time (subject to space availability).
  Spanish
 Spanish course numbers 1 - 2:

A student who has no previous background in Spanish, must take a copy of their high school transcript to the Humanities Undergraduate Counseling Office (HIB 143, open 9-noon and 1-4 p.m. weekdays), to activate eligibility to enroll in Spanish 1A or Spanish 1AB.
 1) A student wanting to enroll in any Spanish 1A through Spanish 2NS (formerly Spanish 5) course at UCI for the first time in fall 2007 must take the Spanish placement test (for exceptions, please see "#2" below). Eligibility to enroll in any Spanish 1A through Spanish 2NS course at UCI will be based on the result of the placement test.
Students who have already met the language breadth requirement with either SAT II scores or Advanced Placement exams, and plan to enroll in a Spanish 1A-2NS course at UCI, are still required to take the Spanish placement exam. Students cannot earn units or grade points at UCI in courses from which they have been exempt on the basis of Advanced Placement credit, even if placement results require enrollment in such a level.
Contact the Testing Office at testoff@uci.edu, at (949) 824-6207, or visit their Web site at http://www.testingoffice.uci.edu/plt/ for placement test dates and details on registering for a test.
 2) Any student with a previous class (or classes) in Spanish from another college or university who wants to enroll in any Spanish 1A through Spanish 2NS course at UCI, must take a copy of their transcript to the Humanities Undergraduate Counseling Office (143 HIB, open 9-noon and 1-4 p.m. weekdays) to activate eligibility to enroll in the appropriate course.

Spanish 3A replaces Spanish 10A in the Spanish major and minor; however, students who earned a "C-" or below in Spanish 10A cannot enroll in Spanish 3A to improve the grade. An active prerequisite check is in place for Spanish 3A enrollment. In order to enroll in Spanish 3A, a student must have previously completed, or be currently completing Spanish 2C or 5 in spring 2007. Students who have satisfied the required prerequisite at another college or university, or who graduated from a high school in a Spanish-speaking country, or who graduated from a Spanish Academy, must take a copy of that transcript to the Humanities Undergraduate Counseling Office (HIB 143, open 9-noon and 1-4p.m. weekdays) in order to activate eligibility to enroll.
