School of Humanities

School of Humanities comments:

SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES ADD/DROP POLICY: ADDS and DROPS must be effected PRIOR to the END of the SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (January 16, 2009).

Any exception to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition, and requires approval of the Undergraduate Dean. For more information, or to download the required form, please visit http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/response/response.php

A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.

There is a mandatory non-refundable lab fee on all Film & Media Studies courses, including cross-listed and concurrently scheduled courses. Lab fees are automatically posted to a student's ZOT Account upon enrollment. Students dropping before the second week School of Humanities Add/Drop deadline (January 16, 2009) may request a lab fee cancellation or refund in writing by contacting the Film & Media Studies Lab Fee Administrator in HIB 235. No cancellation of refund will be made for an unpaid Lab Fee that goes to a collection agency.

Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.

For all non-EAD (electronic add/drop) courses in the School of Humanities, the waitlist for each course is DEACTIVATED at the end of the WebReg adjustment period (5:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2009). Once instruction begins (January 5, 2008), all adds and drops for non-EAD courses will require an add/drop card, and are subject to the policy of each instructor.

Adds, drops and grade/unit changes (all non-EAD courses only) processed within the first two weeks of each quarter via the add/drop/change card require the signature of the instructor. There are two exceptions to this policy:

1) HUMANITIES CORE COURSE (course codes 29000-29113):

All signatures for Humanities Core courses are obtained in their departmental office, HIB 185. Signatures will NOT be provided by instructors in the individual course sections.

2) COMPOSITION/WRITING COURSES (Writing 39A, 39AP with Lab, 39B, 39C, 139W):

Although enrollment changes for all composition courses are provided in the individual course sections, the card will NOT have an actual instructor's signature on it. Students who are allowed to add or drop any composition course mentioned above will be given a card that is pre-stamped with "COMPOSITION OFC" on it. Students who obtain a stamped card can submit the card directly to the Registrar's Office - no further signature is required.

Chinese

Chinese department comments:

Students intending to enroll in a Chinese language class for the first time in winter 2008 must take a placement test. Testing will be offered November 17, 2008. You may register for the placement test with the Testing Center through their web site, http://www.testingoffice.uci.edu.

For additional test information, contact the Testing Center at testcenter@uci.edu or call 949-824-6207. For all other inquiries, contact Ruohmei Hsieh, Chinese Language Coordinator at rhsieh@uci.edu, or at 949-824-2678.

Bring the test result with you to the Faculty Oral Interview offered November 18 & 19, 2008 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., in HIB 452 and 466. Find out your placement and obtain an authorization code to register during the Faculty Oral Interview.

Students registered in any section of Chinese 1B, 2B, or 3B MUST ATTEND THE FIRST and SECOND class meeting of the course. Any student who does not meet this condition will be required to drop the class with a drop card.
