School of Humanities

School of Humanities comments:

SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES ADD/DROP POLICY: ADDS and DROPS must be effected PRIOR to the END of the SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (January 16, 2009).

Any exception to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition, and requires approval of the Undergraduate Dean. For more information, or to download the required form, please visit http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/response/response.php

A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.

There is a mandatory non-refundable lab fee on all Film & Media Studies courses, including cross-listed and concurrently scheduled courses. Lab fees are automatically posted to a student's ZOT Account upon enrollment. Students dropping before the second week School of Humanities Add/Drop deadline (January 16, 2009) may request a lab fee cancellation or refund in writing by contacting the Film & Media Studies Lab Fee Administrator in HIB 235. No cancellation of refund will be made for an unpaid Lab Fee that goes to a collection agency.

Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.

For all non-EAD (electronic add/drop) courses in the School of Humanities, the waitlist for each course is DEACTIVATED at the end of the WebReg adjustment period (5:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2009). Once instruction begins (January 5, 2008), all adds and drops for non-EAD courses will require an add/drop card, and are subject to the policy of each instructor.

Adds, drops and grade/unit changes (all non-EAD courses only) processed within the first two weeks of each quarter via the add/drop/change card require the signature of the instructor. There are two exceptions to this policy:

1) HUMANITIES CORE COURSE (course codes 29000-29113):

All signatures for Humanities Core courses are obtained in their departmental office, HIB 185. Signatures will NOT be provided by instructors in the individual course sections.

2) COMPOSITION/WRITING COURSES (Writing 39A, 39AP with Lab, 39B, 39C, 139W):

Although enrollment changes for all composition courses are provided in the individual course sections, the card will NOT have an actual instructor's signature on it. Students who are allowed to add or drop any composition course mentioned above will be given a card that is pre-stamped with "COMPOSITION OFC" on it. Students who obtain a stamped card can submit the card directly to the Registrar's Office - no further signature is required.

French

French department comments:

Students who have successfully completed French language classes in high school enroll in French language courses at UCI according to their years of previous study. In general, one year of high school French will be considered equal to one quarter of a UCI language course. If desired, students may take a French placement exam through the UCI Testing Center for a more precise assessment Students may then enroll in French at UCI either based on the high school formula indicated above or based on the results of the placement exam. For further information about the French placement test, contact the Testing Center at www.testingcenter.uci.edu or at (949) 824-6207.

Students with credit for previous college-level courses in French, should check with the Humanities Counseling Office in HIB 143 (949-824-5132) to determine the appropriate course to enroll in at UCI.

A student with a score of "3" on either French Advanced Placement exam may enroll directly into French 2A. A student with a score of "4" or "5" on either French Advanced Placement exam is eligible to enroll directly into French 100A; however, full credit will be awarded for French 2C if the student wants to take French 2C first for review.
