Search Criteria:

Spring Qtr, 2010

Registration for term begins on Monday, February 22, 2010
School of Humanities

School of Humanities comments:

ADDS AND DROPS IN THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES MUST BE PROCESSED PRIOR TO THE END OF THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (April 9, 2010).

Any exception to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition and requires approval of the Undergraduate Dean. For more information, or to download the required form, please visit http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/response/response.php

PREREQUISITE VERIFICATION:

Students who did not meet the lower-division writing requirement at UCI must be authorized for those courses in Humanities which require lower-division writing as prerequisite. Continuing students can submit requests via the on-line Course Authorization Form available at http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/response/response.php#forms on the Humanities Undergraduate Study web site. New students must bring unofficial transcripts to the Undergraduate Counseling Office in HIB 143 to request authorization.

PREREQUISITES:

If you satisfied prerequisites for a course at another college, you must contact your academic counseling office to activate your eligibility to enroll in the course.

LAB FEE POLICY

A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.

Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.

If a course has a "B" or "X" in the Restriction column, the student must contact the department to obtain a code to add or drop the course.

German

German department comments:

German placement testing is recommended, but not required, for students who have successfully completed German language classes in high school. To obtain information about dates and content of the German placement exam, contact the UCI Testing Center at (949) 824-6207. Students with college-level course work should present their transcript to an academic counselor in the Humanities Undergraduate Study Office, HIB 143, or call (949) 824-5132 for assistance in determining which UCI course to take.

Apart from the optional placement test, students enroll in German language courses at UCI according to the number of years of previous high school study. In general, one year of high school German is considered equal to one quarter at UCI.

A student who received a score of "3" on the Advanced Placement (AP) German exam is eligible to enroll directly in German 2A. A student who received a score of "4 or 5" on the Advanced Placement German exam is eligible to enroll directly in German 100A, however full credit will be awarded for German 2C if the student wants to take German 2C first, in spring quarter, for review.

Documentation of the German AP exam must be provided to the German Department Language Program Director.

If a class has a "B" or "X" restriction, contact the Instructor to obtain a code to add, drop, or change the grading option of the class.

Attention German Studies Majors:

German Studies majors needing upper-division literature credit in the major should contact Prof. Smith before the first day of instruction.
