School of Humanities comments:

ADDS AND DROPS IN THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES MUST BE PROCESSED PRIOR TO THE END OF THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES (October 8, 2010)

Any exception to the two week add/drop deadline must be requested by petition and requires approval of the Undergraduate Dean. For more information, or to download the required form, please visit http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/response/response.php

Enrollment in lecture and discussion, lecture and studio, lecture and lab, lecture and studio and discussion, etc. is required for all courses offered by the School of Humanities, as well as any courses cross-listed with a Humanities offering.

PREREQUISITE VERIFICATION:

Students who did not meet the lower-division writing requirement at UCI must be authorized for those courses in Humanities which require lower-division writing as prerequisite. Continuing students can submit requests via the on-line Course Authorization Form available at http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/response/response.php#forms on the Humanities Undergraduate Study web site. New students must bring unofficial transcripts to the Undergraduate Counseling Office in HIB 143 to request authorization.

PREREQUISITES:

If you satisfied prerequisites for a course at another college, you must contact your academic counseling office to activate your eligibility to enroll in the course.

LAB FEE POLICY

A lab fee may be assessed for those courses using the Humanities computer labs for class sessions.

INDEPENDENT STUDY PROPOSAL FORMS:

To enroll in a 199 Independent Study course offered through the School of Humanities, students are required to submit an approved Independent Study proposal form (available in HIB 143 or online at http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/current/forms.php) by the end of the second week of classes.

TO ENROLL IN A CHINESE LANGUAGE CLASS:

Continuing students intending to enroll in a Chinese language class for the first time in Fall 2010 must take a placement test. Testing will be offered Tuesday, May 18, 2010. You may register for an exam with the Testing Center through their web site, http://www.testingcenter.uci.edu. Following the test, bring your Language background survey and appear for a Faculty Oral Interview offered Wednesday, May 19, 2010 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., in HIB 452. Placement information and authorization codes will be issued during the interview.

Incoming freshmen and transfer students wanting to enroll in a Chinese language class in Fall 2010 may access the Testing Center through their web site, http://www.testingcenter.uci.edu for details about registration and dates of placement tests offered for new students during the summer months. The Faculty Oral Interview for students who tested during the summer will be September 20-22, 2010 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in HIB 452.

Subject to approval of their Chinese 1C or 2C instructor, continuing students who wish to enroll in Chinese 2A or 3C in Fall 2010 will be issued an authorization code in class. Enrollment preference will be given to students who completed Chinese 1C or 2C in Spring 2010.

Students registered in any section of Chinese 1A, 2A, or 3A MUST ATTEND THE FIRST and SECOND class meetings. Any student who does not meet this condition will be required to drop the class.
