ADDS/DROPS FOR PHYSICS COURSES 2 THROUGH 99:

DROP LECTURE, DISCUSSION & LAB: The deadline to drop any Physics course is Friday, January 18, 2013 (the end of Week 2). Drops must be made using WebReg. Students wishing to drop a course after that date must submit an Enrollment Exception via StudentAccess and obtain the required approval of the Dean of student's major.

ADD LAB: The deadline to add a Physics Lab is Friday, January 18, 2013 (the end of Week 2). Adds must be made using WebReg. Please NOTE: This deadline is earlier than the week 3 School of Physical Sciences deadline.

ADD LECTURE AND DISCUSSION: The deadline to add a Physics Lecture and Discussion is Friday, January 25, 2013 (the end of Week 3). Adds must be made using WebReg. NO ADDS WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER THIS DATE.

Students who wish to make a grade option change before January 18, 2013 (the end of Week 2) should do so via WebReg. Students wishing to make a grade option change after that date must submit an Enrollment Exception via StudentAccess. Required approval is Dean of the student's major. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO FILE AN OFFICIAL DROP WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF "NR" IN THE COURSE. AN "NR" TURNS TO AN "F" OR "NP" AFTER ONE QUARTER OF ATTENDANCE.

PREREQUISITE CHECKING ON PHYSICS 7C: Students who wish to enroll in Physics 7C must either pass Physics 2 with a minimum grade of C or take the Physics 7C placement exam. Please refer to http://www.testingcenter.uci.edu/physics.html for information regarding the Physics 7C placement exam.

NEW POLICY!!!

You will NOT have access to Physics 2 courses you wish to repeat when your enrollment window opens. If your grade was an F, enroll on the FIRST day of the quarter, January 2, 2013, beginning at noon, as space permits. If your grade was between C- and D-, enroll on the FIRST day of classes, January 7, 2013, beginning at noon, as space permits, via WebReg (no add cards). An alternative is to retake the class in Summer Session.

PREREQUISITE CHECKING ON PHYSICS 2: Students who wish to enroll in Physics 2 must be enrolled in Math 2A (corequisite), or have taken and passed AP Calculus AB with a minimum score of 4 or have taken and passed AP Calculus BC with a minimum score of 3 or have taken and passed AP Calculus AB SUB with a minimum score of 4.

DISCUSSION SECTIONS:

Enrollment in lecture and discussion is required. Most sections fill to capacity so students should plan their schedules carefully and enroll as early as possible using WebReg. See above for information on how to add/drop a discussion section. Attendance in your assigned discussion section is MANDATORY throughout the quarter. No quizzes or exams will be graded for students who do not attend their assigned sections. See above for information on how to add/drop a discussion section.

LABORATORY SECTIONS:

1. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday will be observed on Monday, January 21, 2013. Physics 3LB, 7LC, 7LD and 52B students with Monday sections will meet on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the regularly scheduled time.

2. President's Day Holiday will be observed on Monday, February 18, 2013. Physics 3LB, 7LC, 7LD, and 52B students with Monday sections will meet on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the regularly scheduled time.

3. Most sections fill to capacity so students should plan their schedules carefully and enroll as early as possible using WebReg. See above for information on how to add/drop a laboratory section.

4. Attendance is required Week 1, beginning January 7, 2013. Attendance in your assigned laboratory section is MANDATORY throughout the quarter. Students will be allowed to participate in their assigned sections only.

5. Lab manuals for Physics 3LB-LC, 7LD and 52A-B-C are available at the UCI Bookstore. Courses 3LB-LC and 52A-B-C also require the use of 5 blue books (grid) which must be purchased prior to WEEK ONE at the UCI Bookstore.

6. LAB FEES: Students of Physics 3LB-LC, 7LD, 52A-B-C and 121 will be charged a $25.00 lab fee. The charges for these classes will be added to your ZOT Bill Week 1 of the quarter. These charges will be posted Week 3 if you add a Physics lab after week 1. The last day to add a lab is Friday, January 18, 2013 (the end of week 2). Students who drop a Physics lab course no later than January 18, 2013 may have the fee reversed. In order to reverse the lab fee, students must bring proof of the drop date and their student ID card to FRH 4109, 9am-12pm Monday through Friday.

The Physics Tutoring Center is available to students in Physics 2, 3, and 7. Please check http://www.physics.uci.edu/ugrad/affairs for scheduling.

PREREQUISITES:

Physics 3 courses must be taken sequentially; 3A, 3B, 3C.

USING THE WAITLIST SYSTEM: The waitlist system for all Physics courses will be activated through Friday, January 18, 2013 (end of Week 2). Placement on the waitlist does not guarantee enrollment in the class. Students still on the waitlist after January 18, 2013 (end of week 2) will not be added via the waitlist system. If you are unable to add through the waitlist system, you must add an open section using WebReg by the enrollment deadline - Friday, January 25, 2013 (end of week 3).

The textbook for Physics 2 is the same as the textbook for Physics 7 series. Students may purchase the Physics 7 textbook with Mastering Physics (online homework system) access code from the bookstore. This access code will be valid for 2 years and students can use this access code for Physics 2 and 7. Alternately, if Physics 2 students wish to wait to purchase the textbook and Mastering Physics access, they will be given the option of free access to Mastering Physics for ONE quarter and this access will include the FULL textbook in electronic format (available only when logged into their Mastering Physics account).
