General Scheduling Policies

1. Departments are instructed to schedule classes on-module in their first-priority General Assignment Classroom space BEFORE requesting the use of other rooms on this list.

2. Normally, 3 and 4 unit courses must be scheduled for three 50-minute periods per week (as Monday-Wednesday-Friday) beginning on the hour from 8:00 a.m. to 6:50 pm or two 80-minute periods per week (as Tuesday-Thursday) from 8:00 a.m. to 6:20 pm Normally, 5 unit courses are scheduled daily for 50-minute periods per week (as Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday-Friday) beginning on the hour from 8:00 a.m. to 6:50 pm. Buildings are closed by 10pm Monday through Friday.

3. Specialized facility needs, such as laboratory demonstrations and unique media services, will be considered and accommodated whenever possible. However, maximum room utilization must take precedence.

4. Requests which under-utilize space will be scheduled at less popular hours after other scheduling needs have been met.

5. Three-hour courses will be scheduled after multi-day courses. One-hour discussions (zero-unit classes) have the lowest priority and are scheduled last.

6. Room requests must be made on the basis of anticipated enrollments being equal to or greater than 80 percent of the room capacity. Courses must show significant enrollment history at the capacity requested. The University Registrar will assign rooms based on this principle of maximum room utilization.
