Cross-Enrollment

The California Education Code Sections 66750 through 66756, commonly referred to as Senate Bill 1914 (Killea), permits undergraduate students enrolled in any campus of the California Community Colleges, the California State University, or the University of California to enroll without formal admission in a maximum of one course per academic term at a campus of either of the other systems on a space available basis at the discretion of the appropriate campus authorities on both campuses.

Eligibility Requirements

Students are eligible to cross-enroll if the student has met all of the following six requirements:

  1. Completed at least one term at their home campus as a matriculated student
  2. Enrolled for a minimum of six units for the current term
  3. Earned a grade point average of 2.0 (grade of C) for work completed
  4. Paid appropriate full-time tuition and fees at their home campus for the current term
  5. Completed appropriate academic preparation as determined by the host campus
  6. Has been classified as a California resident for tuition purposes or has been exempted from nonresident tuition under Regents Policy 3105

Enrollment Conditions

All Students

  • Approval for cross-enrollment is valid for only the one term specified and is subject to space availability, deadlines, registration procedures, and priorities of the host campus. You must reapply for each term you wish to cross-enroll.
  • Evidence of completion of course prerequisites may be required at the time of enrollment (transcript).
  • Students are subject to all administrative procedures of the host campus. Students who choose to cancel cross-enrollment must process an official drop at the host campus or risk having an unsatisfactory grade recorded on your permanent record.
  • Because of overlapping academic calendars, cross-enrollment is possible only in certain combinations. See below.

Outgoing UCI Students

  • Academic advising is only available at UCI for UCI students. Approval from your UCI academic advisor is required to ensure the course meets UCI requirements and/or is transferable.
  • Academic records are maintained at the host campus. Upon completion of the course, UCI students must request an official transcript to be sent to UCI Undergraduate Admission. Students must also submit a request form to update their student record.
  • UCI students can download the Application for Cross-Enrollment.
    • Enrollment in pre-collegiate courses is excluded.
    • UCI students who cross-enroll are not eligible for reduced tuition and fees through the Part-Time Study Program.

Incoming CA Community College and CA State University Students

  • Students visiting from a CA Community College or a CSU campus are urged to meet with their academic advisors at their home campus to ensure the course meets credit and transferability requirements.
  • CA Community College or CSU students who visited UCI prior to the Fall 2025 quarter can request transcripts from the Division of Continuing Education. Visiting students for the Fall 2025 quarter and thereafter can request official transcripts from UCI Registrar’s website.
  • CA Community College or CSU students can download the Visiting Student Application for Cross-Enrollment.

Tuition and Fees and Financial Aid

  • Financial aid is available only through your home campus. Only units enrolled in at your home campus count towards determining financial aid eligibility. If UCI is your home campus, UCI students must be enrolled in 12+ units at UCI to be considered full-time and receive maximum financial aid.
  • You will not be charged additional course enrollment fees. However, host campuses may charge an administration fee each term.
  • You will have to pay any additional fees required of other students at the host campus (e-tech, labs, materials, breakage, computer, transcript, etc.).
  • Students eligible for veterans, rehabilitation, social security, and other federal, state, or county benefits must secure eligibility certification through their home campus.

Services while Cross-Enrolled

  • Health services at the host campus are limited to treatment for emergencies.
  • Participation in student activities or use of the student union at the host campus is subject to limitations set by the host campus.
  • Parking on the host campus will be available on the basis of a term fee within campus parking availability or on a daily fee basis.
  • Information concerning host campus identification card policies will be provided at registration.
